Architecture: National Museum of Qatar

The building of the National Museum of Qatar was designed by the famous French architect Jean Nouvel (Jean Nouvel), inspired by crystals that are formed in the sand of the desert. In fact, this ring is connected with each other pavilions surrounding the courtyard.

The museum is conceived as a center of culture and communications, it will be the first attraction of Doha, which tourists will see coming from the airport.

The National Museum of Qatar will become the voice of culture, conveying the message of modernity, metamorphosis and beauty that occur when the desert meets the sea.

The inclined discs, from which the floors, walls and roofs of the museum are made, are made of steel structures and sand-colored concrete. The voids between the discs are glazed. The interior of the museum also used traditional plaster and lime plaster, imitating a stone.

The museum will have eight thousand square meters of permanent galleries, two thousand square meters of space for temporary exhibitions, a 220-seat auditorium, a 70-seat food forum, a television studio, two cafes, a restaurant and a museum store. It will also house the Heritage Research Center, restoration laboratories, personnel offices and waste collection and storage areas. In addition, on the territory of the complex will be located a landscaped park of 11 hectares, inspired by the landscape of the desert of Qatar.

The opening is tentatively scheduled for December 2018.
