Google will invest $ 10 million over the next two years in support of media literacy. This includes, in particular, the partnership with educational YouTube channels for children, which should teach them to recognize fake news from real facts. This was reported by Polygon with reference to representatives of YouTube.
The project involves such channels as asapSCIENCE with 7 million subscribers and Smarter Every Day with 5.5 million subscribers, their authors expressed interest in the YouTube initiative. Other channels devoted to education and news will be able to join the program of the service. The first videos are going to be released in the coming months.
One of the reasons for creating the program was a video about a schoolboy who survived shooting in Florida. The video was called staged, and the young man himself was called a “crisis actor”. The video got into the trends of YouTube and the service had to remove it manually.
On March 14, it became known that for the fight against fake news under conspiracy videos there will be a certificate of events or facts from Wikipedia. Journalists, critics and the encyclopedia itself met with contempt. It turned out that YouTube did not agree on this with the Wikimedia Foundation, which runs Wikipedia.
