According to TechCrunch, Google acquires Lytro camera maker for $ 40 million. Other sources report about $ 25 million. After completion of the transaction, not all employees will pass to the new employer: some have already received severance pay and went in search of another place.
The main interest for the buyer is probably represented by Lytro technologies related to the application of the “light field” during the shooting, as well as some others. Google will be able to use them in augmented and virtual reality devices.
Earlier, Lytro received an investment of more than $ 200 million, in 2017, the company was valued at $ 360 million. Therefore, it is only possible to call a $ 40 million takeover a “good deal” with great difficulty.
