Russian scientists intend to extract the so-called hypoallergenic cow with the help of genetic engineering, the milk of which will not cause negative reactions from the body. As Izvestia writes, genomic editing will not introduce anything unnatural into the animal’s body.
“In cow’s milk there is a special protein – beta-lactoglobulin, which provokes an allergic reaction. This protein can be inactivated by methods of genome editing, and milk from such cows will no longer cause an allergic reaction, even a person with high sensitivity to beta-lactoglobulin “, – said Academician Olga Dontsova.
The taste of milk will remain unchanged, and allergic reactions will disappear, scientists say.
