The restriction affected employees working with the filtering of suspicious content.
The company went to such a step because of the care of the mental health of the moderators. This statement was made by the CEO of the service – Susan Vojitsky. She said that even 4 hours a day is a lot for this kind of work.
This is a real problem, I spent a lot of time watching this content last year. It is very difficult
Federal laws require the technology companies to use double content moderation, which includes automatic and human checks.
More recently, YouTube has started using the Content ID system, which identifies and eliminates direct violations related to copyright, television, movies and music. But for commercials that capture violence, suicides and other cruel themes, the service uses part-time moderators so that they can confirm the presence of alarming content on video recordings.
Susan said that this problem could be aggravated in the near future, since YouTube promised to hire 10,000 new employees to eliminate the shortcomings of its algorithms. And while moderators working on a part-time basis do not have access to mental health benefits, as does Google’s full-time employees.
