Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill started an account in Instagram, he called “dayofpatriarch” (Patriarch’s Day).
As RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the patriarch, unexpected and informal moments from daily services will be published in Instagram.
Not all photos and videos are included in the albums on the official website of the Moscow Patriarchate, many moments of the patriarch’s ministry remain off-screen. Interesting, informal photos and videos will now appear in Instagram.
In 2015, the patriarch had a page in the social network “VKontakte”. At the same time he repeatedly spoke out against the use of social networks. However, as noted by RIA Novosti, at the last Bishops’ Council in December 2017 the patriarch called social networks “the same reality of our time as television or radio” and noted that they should not be neglected.
February 28, 2017, the patriarch shamed users of social networks because of the “pursuit of huskies.” He said that many young people do not see a different goal in life, except for the collection of the likes, and if they are not, they perceive it as a “personal tragedy”.
Today in our social networks there is a real illness, when especially young people are ready to take any actions, even sometimes the most terrible ones, with the risk of life, only for someone to say that this photo, displaying this or that act, to him liked. To determine such support, the English word “like” is used.
In March 2017, Kirill asked young people to be more attentive to the flow of information and values that are imposed on social networks.
