Steve Wozniak lost seven bitcoins because of scammers

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak told a business summit in India how fraudsters stole from him seven beatcoins. At the current rate , it is about 70 thousand dollars or 3.9 million rubles.

Wozniak stressed that the blockade does not guarantee the absence of financial crimes in this area. He himself collided with scammers while trying to sell the crypto currency.

I had seven bitcoins, they were stolen by swindlers. Someone bought them from me online, paying the transaction with a credit card, and then canceled the payment. That’s so easy! In this case, scammers used the stolen card, so the money will not be returned.

Canceling the bitcoin-transaction is often impossible, and only the recipient can repay the amount. In the case of credit cards, holders are entitled to challenge the transaction, for example, if there is a certainty that the transaction was never completed. However, in the operation with a stolen card, it is practically meaningless to demand a refund.

In the summer of 2017 Wozniak “for the sake of experiment” acquired bitcoins, which at that time were worth $ 700 per unit. The co-founder of Apple did not specify exactly how much he bought. In January of 2018, Wozniak told about the sale of all his savings in the crypto currency (it went up to almost 20 thousand dollars), explaining that he was tired of being nervous because of the course and “being one of those who looks after him and worries about the numbers” .
