The prosecution requested 30 years in prison for former President of South Korea for corruption

The state prosecution of South Korea asked to sentence the former president of the country Pak Kun Hye to 30 years in prison on charges of corruption scandal. The court has not yet made a decision.

Pak Keng Hye was accused of 18 episodes of corruption, including bribes, abuse of power and the disclosure of state secrets. The defendant did not participate in the hearings, she was prolonged her detention.

According to the documents of the case, the former president had conspired with her friend and daughter of the leader of the religious cult “Church of Eternal Life” Tsoi Sun Sil, admitting her to state affairs. She was arrested on suspicion of extorting money from a number of South Korean companies and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

In March 2017, Pak Keng Hye announced impeachment, after which early elections were held in South Korea. Due to the corruption scandal in the country mass street actions took place.
