The Pentagon said that “as of February 23,” only one open transgender signed a contract with the army. It meets all standards of service, but has not yet started training.
The military do not know how many transgender people actually came to service after January 1, 2018, but this is the first time that a person has acted openly.
In August 2017, US President Donald Trump signed a decree banning transgender service in the army, explaining the decision that the army can not burden itself with medical costs and other impediments. Later, federal courts in several states blocked the decree of the head of state, the Pentagon also opposed it.
