Microsoft and Xiaomi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Companies will work together on cloud computing, artificial intelligence and hardware.
As part of the agreement, Microsoft plans to allow Xiaomi to use its cloud computing products, including Azure, to develop smartphones, laptops and smart devices and bring them to the international market. At the same time, the partnership gives the American company the opportunity to gain wider access to the Chinese market. However, the memorandum does not actually bear legal obligations for any party, so it is not known whether there are any financial reasons behind it.
In addition, the parties are discussing the integration of voice assistant Microsoft Cortana in the budget column Mi AI and the use in the joint projects of the technologies of the American company. Now Microsoft has only one device with Cortana – the Harmon Kardon Invoke column .
Microsoft and Xiaomi first began to cooperate in 2015, when they signed a deal that Windows 10 will be tested on the devices of the Chinese company. In 2017, Xiaomi was in fifth place in terms of the number of smartphones produced and delivered 92.4 million devices.
