15-year-old Russian athlete Alina Zagitova became the Olympic champion in single figure skating. She went around another skater from Russia – Evgeny Medvedev, who took silver. In an arbitrary program, both figure skaters scored 156.65 points, however, the 18-year-old athlete lost by the sum of the scores of the two programs.

1. Alina Zagitova (Russia) – 239.57 points

2. Evgenia Medvedeva (Russia) – 238.26 points

3. Caitlin Osmond (Canada) – 231.02 points

In the first stage of the tournament – a short program – Zagitova was also the first. She beat the world record of Medvedev, established at the same competition in Pyeongchang.

The victory in women’s single figure skating brought the first gold medal to the treasury of Russia, which acts under the neutral flag as the “Olympic athletes from Russia” (OAR). Before that, the team won 4 silver and 8 bronze medals. Another bronze in curling was taken because of the dope found in Alexander Krushelnytsky.

Both athletes already have one silver at the Olympic Games in South Korea: the team of Olympic athletes from Russia became the second in the team tournament. Medvedev then acted in a short program, and Zagitova – in an arbitrary.
