A black-feathered chickens – a common enough occurrence. However, there is an unusual breed these birds with black bones and even black internal organs.
Chinese breed called silky has very soft fluffy feathers, and differs from others in chickens that has skin bluish black tone, dark meat and bone black and the internal organs. In the West, Chinese silky chickens are bred, usually for decorative purposes, but in China and other Eastern countries, their meat is considered a delicacy and is not available to everyone.
The breed is known to the VII-th century, and it is believed that eating these chickens, known in China as in gu ji (in the lane. Chinese – “chicken with black bones”), has a beneficial effect on human health. For example, Chinese women traditionally eat meat Chinese silky chickens after childbirth to restore energy, in addition, the Chinese say that the dishes are made from black chicken positive effect on the blood, lungs and stomach.
Typically, the meat from gu ji fully express their unique properties, it is prepared from the broth with the addition of ginseng, wolfberry and dried Chinese dates, such as fried chicken very often.
In 2011, the geneticists have found that the unusual color of the meat and internal organs of these birds (a phenomenon called fibromelanozis) is associated with a mutation in the endothelin-3, which is responsible for the development of the cells that produce pigments – too much pigment and causes blackening of the skin, not only and bones, but also the internal organs.
