In this post we would like to introduce you to a motorcycle IZH Jupiter-March 1976 issue, which over 38 years were saving for better times, and because all this time machines stood in a shed in their original packaging, kept its original appearance and zero mileage. Car “time capsules” have always, albeit small, but still some mileage, because, as a minimum, the machine had to be reached by automobile dealer to the garage – and this is a few tens of kilometers. Another thing – motorcycles: in effect a compact size, in the Soviet period (and now) they were transported and sold in their original packaging, which was a wooden box.
It is in this box, and the factory was found that IZH Jupiter 3: Brand New and never who traveled on public roads. The motorcycle off the line Izhevsk Motor back in 1976.
Wheelchair stored upside down: that does not take up much space.
This unit at the time the state has allocated one forester in Cherkasy region – to bypass areas of forestry. However, for these purposes, he already had an older Iz Jupiter-2 in good condition, so people decided to keep new equipment to better times and for many years locked in a dry shed. He even registered in the SAI not put!
This bike shed and stood right up to 2014, when the grandson of the owner decided to still get out of the rubble trash Soviet technique which for 38 years has already become a rarity. And even more so in such a state!
Mileage on the odometer – 3 kilometers, and it is recorded in the documentation that came with the bike. These he drove more kilometers of factory landfill: running a test to detect flaws and defects of the assembly.
The documents, which are attached to the motorcycle. Discharged its June 2, 1976-year. Here mileage recorded at the time off the assembly line.
An interesting artifact was found in the left side glove compartment. Next to the battery there was a first aid kit for tire repair! Inside – a tube with the dried glue set Latok for cameras, sandpaper, and a user manual.
Tire repair kit for
inside the first aid kit was also found a paper parcel with a strange white powder – details in the video below. I wonder – what is it?
By the way, is not just a Jupiter-3, and the version with sidecar sidecar-PD-1 – Jupiter 3K. In 1976, a similar bike cost 1040 Soviet rubles, while the “householder” Traversing the 300 rubles cheaper. For comparison: in the Czech Jawa-634 asked for 950 rubles (with a stroller – 1360 rubles), a little less estimated CZ-472 – 850 rubles, and the most fashionable among the young Iz Planeta-Sport sold exactly 1,000 rubles. However, the most affordable 350-cubic model was Planet 3: 650 rubles for “alone.”
Side trailer PD-1 in its time produced Vyatsko-Polyansky plant: color quality is poor.
Iz Jupiter-3 was produced from 1971 to 1981-th year. The bike is equipped with a 2-cylinder in-line engine air-cooling capacity of 25 hp .: it’s more than that, “Java” -350 of the period (23 hp). The maximum speed of the model (without a side trailer) is 120 km / h and average fuel consumption varies between 3.5-4.0 l / 100 km 18-liter petrol tank enough for 400-500 kilometers. The fuel is a mixture of 76th gasoline with oil, because the 350-cc engine is a 2-stroke. Transmission – 4-speed.
Made in the USSR!

Motorcycle turned quite heavy: the dry weight is 162 kg. Frame – welded from massive steel pipes. Front and rear wheels are equipped with the same tire size 3,5-18 inches: completely interchangeable.
The seat – 2-seater with a convenient handle for the passenger.
Light engineering Jupiter-3 poor. Headlight covers very little way, and to put other, more powerful, does not allow a small power generator. The voltage of the electrical system – 6 volts.
